Wordy wordyness

Okay, I know that this seems like a sh**load of text, but bear with me. Pwease? Plus, as a reward, I left an adorable picture of a llama plushie at the end of this post.

In contrast to last week, the past few days have been extremely busy, busy, busy. Not only did I have about five lengthy essays to hand in at school (written 2 days before the deadline, whilst trying to ignore all of the “sucks to be you” comments from my lovely sister -- who spent most of her week watching TV, eating chocolate flakes and bathing in the sun. Whatthefuck (;_;)), but I also spent a lot of time looking for summer jobs, cleaning the house, and excercising, amongst many other things.
Anyway, it’s all over now. Additionally, and most importantly, summer vacation is almost here ヽ( ゚ヮ゚) ノ. This, of course, implies a lot of lovely clothes, starry night skies, partying, a bit of traveling and a lot to blog about.
This morning, however, was rather quiet. I woke up at 7am (wtf brain) and proceeded to eat at least a dozen strawberries for breakfast. I’m going to skip the part where I tell you about walking the dog, showering, eating some more, etc... all for the sake of your sanity. You’re welcome.

Oh, I also spent ~3h playing Wario Ware: Touched on my Nintendo DS o___o.

In any case, after doing all of that super interesting stuff, I casually navigated to Yahoo Answers. To be more precise, the Beauty & Style category. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with it, but, for those of you who aren’t.... well, it’s pretty much a place where people ask questions about beauty....and, wait for it...-- style (I’m pretty useless when it comes to explaining stuff *sigh*). What makes this category special, however, is that is always pretty entertaining to observe when you have nothing better to do. It’s also a bit sad, really, because most of the questions resemble the following: ‘Am I pretty?’ ‘Am I fat?’ ‘Is my cat fat?’ and lastly, the occasional, yet common ‘Do you think I could be a model?’. (._.)I mean.... really.
I think it’s about time some things about modeling got clarified, some myths busted and the questions answered. I spent approximately 1 year modeling at MIKAs, a notable and wonderful Swedish agency {see, if you click here, you can even see a slightly pixelated photo of me at a photoshoot, last year (if you want, I can show you the pictures that resulted from all of the photoshoots, but since I’m not here to talk about MYSELF, I don’t think necessary)}, so I know quite a bit about the business... the little details that no one ever told you about. Anyway, here I go:

ATTENSHUN PEOPLE: This applies to high fashion/runway modeling only.

Do I have what it takes to model?
“Despite as being perceived as narrow minded and standardized, the modeling industry is actually very diverse in shapes and forms.” ~Shiloh magazine, 2011
If you want to get into high fashion modeling, generally known as the toughest of them all, there are a few requirements you need to meet. First of all, the measurements. To be a high fashion/runway model, you have to be at least 5ft7in/170cm tall, and ideally have a bust-hips-waist ratio of 34in-24in-34in / 87cm-60cm-87cm. Of course, exceptions can be made. A good thing to keep in mind is that your weight does not matter, as long as you approximately meet the measurements I mentioned.
Another thing that is obviously very important, is your face. I’m afraid that I cannot say what type of face is most attractive because this varies SO MUCH from client to client and agency to agency. For example, if you’re applying to an agency, you might get rejected by some, but on the other hand, several other agencies might be interested in you.
Generally though, if you have a slender face, good skin, a face to remember (this does not automatically imply that you have to have a so-called ‘beautiful face’) and high cheekbones, you’re in. You will also be needing a bucketful of confidence.

How do I become a model?
There are two typical ways, really.
1) You get scouted by an agent. Many models literally get approached on the street by modeling scouts. They usually give you their business card, and tell you a little about their agency. If this happens -- YAY. Now go home, do some research on the agency, and contact them if everything seems safe :3.

2) You feel like you have the potential and the confidence, and you apply yourself. Find a reputable agency (because, if you want to accomplish something, why not go for the best agencies? After all, they have the best partners and you have a better chance of actually getting somewhere. I know that this might sound a little superficial, but it is what I have learnt from my experience.) such as Elite Model Management, Ford Models, IMG, etc. There are so many good ones to choose from, so be sure to do some thorough research on them and apply to the best agencies you can find near where you live.
Next, take some pictures. All you really need is a camera, some plain clothes (ideally a monotone, figure fitting top & skinny jeans) and a scrunchie to pull up your hair. A good combo of pictures is 1 close-up, 1 of you standing straight + facing the camera, and 1 of you standing with your side to the camera.
Remember, NO make up, and NO particular facial expressions. If you’re going to do this, do it right.

Here's a picture of a strawberry, to give you the strength needed to continue reading this post. Awyeah

How to avoid scams?
The golden rule is: if they ask you for money, it’s a scam. They ask you to go to modeling school? Scam. No.exceptions.

Do models starve to be skinny?
There is a diet called ‘high metabolism and generally healthy food, with the occasional sweet stuff’. I know that this might be hard to believe by some, especially seeing as so many people are convinced that models literally starve themselves because, oh hells no, no one could ever be THAT thin naturally. Sure, there are many exceptions, but most models actually are naturally thin -- believe it or not.

What is typical day in the life of a model like?
Typical myths about modeling claims such as “Modeling is glamorous” “It makes you fabulously wealthy”. This may be true for a few lucky individuals, however, for most of us (even for many of the rather well known models) -- it isn’t. In fact, the daily lives of many models is rather banal and uninteresting. Way to kill the dream, aye? Modeling involves a lot of waiting, to be honest. You wait for your agency to contact you with a job offer. You wait for the photoshoot. You literally wait SEVERAL HOURS whilst the makeup artists and stylists prepare you, etcetera. *Sigh*

.•*¨`*•. ☆ .•*¨`*•

Okay, I’m done for now. Phew (。_゜)

Oh gawd, this is probably one of the longest posts in the history of blogging.... however, if you have any unanswered questions about modeling, or anything of the sort really, leave a comment or send me an email.

Oh, and here's the llama plushie I promised you ヽ( ゚ヮ゚) ノ...

Oobeedeebeedoobee

(^▽^)/hello.
Do pardon me for the terribly spotty posting so far. In my defence, I have been really, really, really busy these past 2 weeks. You know, watching reruns of That 70s Show, sleeping, eating, looking at pictures of cute baby animals on the Internetz, sleeping some more, and literally stuffing buckets of Ben&Jerry's down my throat. Well, not quite literally. I believe that would be somewhat difficult to do (゚ペ). Unless you're dealing with those cute mini Ben&Jerry's ice cream tubs. I do believe that trying to nom on those classifies as the most challenging version of Chubby Bunny, ever. Oh, and for those of you who don't know, Cubby Bunny is a game usually played by 2 or more players. It basically involves people placing marshmallows in their mouth, one at a time, until they no longer can pronounce the words "Chubby Bunny" coherently. Voila, easy as pie... or should I say 'easy as marshmallow', ahahah....hah.....hah... meh (。_。). I should probably get a life.
This picture is a bit off topic, but I felt like posting it, mainly to kind of, maybe, kind of, yes, let you know that I actually was somewhat productive during my unannounced hiatus (even though this took me 15 minutes to draw to draw, at the most(ー_ー)). Also, LOOK AT HER AWESOME EYES. I can't wait to finish it
(・ω・)!

Anyway, I apologize for the rather awkward gap between this post and the last, and I promise not to do it again -- at least not this month. If I do, I give you the permission to throw me with a rotten banana peel... That's how friggin' serious I am.

Gold rush

This blogging thing is turning out to be a little more difficult than I expected. Of course, I could go on for ages about the weather, or my sickeningly large pile of homework (that grew even bigger this week, hence the pitiful gap between my 1st post and this one), or how I saw a pigeon swim in it's own waste. Oh, and I might add that the last part was particularly unpleasant to witness... not that I have anything against pigeons... but I mean, really. I guess that my posts should come straight from the heart. Then again, this is not an effing personal diary (ಠ_ಠ) + I'm guessing that posts crowded with names of people whom you don't know (love, frenemies, and other teenagery stuff) would seriously bore the hell out of you*. Complex stuff indeed.
So, until I figure out how to deal with this delicate problem, here's a photo of the moment.

Mmm, yummeeh. Cake at 02:01 in the morning (◦ˆ⌣ˆ◦).

By the way, if you happened to notice the golden mask in the corner of the photo... well, it's origins can be traced back to yesterday's notably fancypants bal masqué -- something that I will probably write a little more about in the near future.

*actually, if you think about it, to bore the hell out of someone can be considered as a super positive thing. It's never good to have pieces of hell inside you. True story.
Finally, you can proudly say that you finished reading a post that involved pigeons swimming in their own poo. From now on, you might as well say that your life is complete ヽ( ゚ヮ゚) ノ.

1st

Hello, my name is Laura and I will be blogging here from now on. I'm not quite sure about what, but I'm guessing mostly about events I attend, clothes, shoes, food (oh, food ♡!) and random stuff I find interesting. This is just a short introduction, but if you wish to know more about me or this blog, please visit this page.
